When the Wi-Fi is strong… but our focus goes missing!

PTM at Laurels

During our recent Parent-Teacher Meeting at Laurels, we had the pleasure of hosting a truly memorable session with Mr. Sukhwant Singh Thapar — CBSE National Awardee and Founder Principal of DPS Nigahi. Though he couldn’t join us in person due to an unexpected situation at his school, his online presence was no less powerful.

His topic? “Raising Confident Children in a Hyperconnected World.”
His delivery? A masterclass in storytelling, reflection, and gentle humour.

With beautifully crafted presentations and real-life anecdotes, Mr. Thapar held the attention of students and parents alike — not an easy feat in a hall full of notifications and curious minds!

Some key takeaways:

  • Devices are tools, not babysitters.
  • Not all screen time is bad — but unfiltered, unguided, and unlimited screen time can be.
  • There are groups online that seem fun… but might be subtly pulling children (and adults) away from healthy, balanced growth.
  • The best way to raise confident children? Be a confident, connected parent — not just to Wi-Fi, but to your child’s world.

It was a session filled with laughs, nods, and a few raised eyebrows — the good kind. Thank you, Mr. Thapar, for reminding us that parenting in the digital age is not about cutting the cord, but guiding the connection.
