The AI: The Story of Tomorrow, Today

(The forthcoming book: From the Principal’s Desk – A Journey of Lessons)

Dr Arun Prakash

Picture this: It’s the year 2035. A teacher steps into her classroom—not with a chalk and duster, but with a virtual assistant powered by Artificial Intelligence. The assistant has analysed each student’s learning style overnight and has already prepared personalized lesson plans. No two students in the class are reading the same material or solving the same problems. The teacher walks around, not lecturing, but guiding, nurturing creativity, and addressing questions that only a human touch can answer.

Outside the school, a farmer uses an AI-enabled drone to monitor his fields. The drone tells him where the soil needs water, where pests are hiding, and even predicts how much wheat he will harvest next month. Across the city, doctors perform remote surgeries using robotic arms, directed by AI algorithms. Meanwhile, a child in a remote village learns coding from an online tutor powered by AI—something unimaginable just a decade ago.

These aren’t scenes from a science fiction novel. They are glimpses of a very real, very near future—a future driven by AI. The question isn’t whether this future will arrive, but whether we, as parents, teachers, and students, are ready for it.

The Infinite Possibilities of AI

Artificial Intelligence has already begun to weave itself into our lives in ways we often don’t even notice. Consider how your phone knows which route will have the least traffic or how your favourite shopping app seems to predict what you’ll buy next. These are everyday examples of AI quietly making our lives easier.

Now imagine these possibilities applied to education. What if a child struggling with math could get instant help from an AI tutor that never tires and can explain concepts in a hundred different ways? What if schools used AI to identify a student’s potential early on, ensuring they receive the right encouragement to excel in their unique talents—be it science, art, or even sports?

But let’s not stop there. Think about AI in exams. Instead of rote memorization, students could use AI tools to solve real-world problems, turning every test into an opportunity for discovery. Imagine schools where children not only study history but recreate historical events using virtual reality, guided by AI. The possibilities, quite frankly, are endless.

From Possibility to Reality

Now, let’s come back to today. AI isn’t just a futuristic dream; it’s already shaping our present. One of my friends, a teacher, recently shared an extraordinary story. Her school introduced an AI-powered app to monitor students’ emotional well-being. The app analyzed patterns in how students interacted—who they spoke to, how they behaved in class—and flagged potential signs of bullying or loneliness. Thanks to this, the school intervened early, providing counselling and support to children who needed it most. Technology, used with compassion, saved those children from emotional harm.

Another friend, a farmer from a small village in Uttar Pradesh, started using AI-enabled weather prediction tools. With these, he could prepare for droughts or floods in advance, ensuring his crops were safe. “AI isn’t just for big cities,” he told me. “It’s like having a wise elder in the field, guiding me.”

Why This Matters for Parents and Teachers

I often tell parents that preparing children for the future means preparing them for AI. I see hesitation in their eyes—“What does AI have to do with my child’s schooling?” they ask. Well, let me put it this way: A hundred years ago, literacy was considered a luxury; today, it’s a necessity. In the same way, AI will soon become as essential as reading, writing, and arithmetic.

For teachers, the question is equally pressing. AI won’t replace them, but it will redefine their roles. Just as a carpenter uses tools to shape wood, teachers will use AI to shape young minds. But here’s the catch—they’ll need to understand these tools first.

The Blurring Line Between Humans and Machines

A while back, I read about Neuralink—a project that aims to link the human brain with computers. It sounds straight out of a science fiction movie, doesn’t it? But it’s real. We’re entering an era where the boundary between human and machine will blur. Your child’s classmates might someday include not just other children, but AI-powered “learning companions” designed to push their limits.

It’s not a question of whether this will happen—it’s happening. The only question is: Are we ready?

Personal Story: My Journey into AI

I’ve always been fascinated by technology—how it evolves, adapts, and reshapes the way we live. As someone who has followed these developments closely, I was intrigued when AI began to integrate into everyday tools. I remember a particular moment when I truly realized the transformative power of AI, not as a concept, but as a practical force in our lives.

A few years ago, I was exploring AI-driven apps for education. One app caught my attention—it could analyze a student’s handwriting from scanned pages and identify not only spelling errors but also suggest better ways to structure sentences. Intrigued, I tested it with some notes written by a colleague who had notoriously illegible handwriting. To my surprise, the app not only deciphered the text but highlighted areas where the sentences could be clearer. That experience left me thinking: If AI could help decode handwriting, what else could it achieve?

This wasn’t just a casual experiment; it became a springboard for larger questions. How could we use AI to identify gaps in student learning before they snowball? How could it help teachers, not by replacing their creativity, but by lightening the administrative load so they could focus on inspiring students?

Every interaction with such technology deepened my appreciation for its potential. It’s not about gadgets or gimmicks but about finding real solutions to challenges we’ve faced for years. From classrooms to clinics, AI is becoming an invisible yet indispensable ally in our journey to improve lives.

What this experience taught me was simple: Staying updated with technology isn’t just about using the latest tools—it’s about understanding their potential to create meaningful change. AI isn’t something we should fear or hesitate to embrace. It’s an invitation to think bigger, solve problems smarter, and dream of a better tomorrow.

The Call to Action

This book isn’t just about technology; it’s about preparing for a world where AI will influence everything—from how we work and learn to how we dream and create. It’s about helping you, as parents, teachers, and students, embrace this change. Together, we’ll explore the challenges and opportunities of this AI-driven future. Because whether we like it or not, the future is already knocking at our door.

Let’s not just answer it—let’s welcome it.
